Troop 900, a boy only troop, no girls, has been a part of the Boy Scouts of America, Scouts BSA, soon to be rebranded as Scouting America, here in the Heart of Virginia Council (602) and of the Crater District (19) since 1979. We are blessed to be sponsored and chartered by Gregory Memorial Presbyterian Church located in Prince George, Virginia. Most people say our "Scout Hut" meeting area in the church's original Temple Building, the old white church next door, is the best around. Thank you, Gregory Memorial!
If you are a boy aged 11, or age 10 and have completed the fifth grade, or have earned the Cub Scout Arrow of Light Award and are not yet 18 years of age, the time for beginning a real adventure is here and now. We have youth members from several different area schools, home schooled youth, and youth from military families. All are welcome to join with us. Each year our troop supports between 20-30 registered youth scouts and several of our youth achieve the Eagle Scout award and are elected to the Order of the Arrow every year.
Troop meetings are held most Tuesday nights from 7:00-8:30pm and we try to have an outdoor camping event for one weekend each month. We also go to a weeklong summer camp every year. One of the good things about our Troop 900 is that we offer a wide range of activities throughout the year such as camping, hiking, cycling, canoeing, wilderness survival, cooking, and first aid. We also conduct service projects for the community and eat really well on our monthly campouts!
We believe in and practice the Scouts BSA model of a 'youth led' troop utilizing the Patrol Method. Our youth leaders are qualified and receive training, Junior Leader Training, in their respective leadership positions. Please stop by for a visit. If you have any further questions, please feel free to drop us a line under the "Contact Us" menu item to the right. See below for some more of scouting's values:
The Boy Scouts of America, Scouts BSA, is one of the nation's largest and most prominent values-based youth development and education organizations. The BSA provides an educational program for young people that builds character, trains them in the responsibilities of participating citizenship, and develops personal fitness and leadership skills. For over a century, the BSA has helped build the future leaders of this country by combining those educational activities and lifelong values with fun, "Fun with a Mission". The Boy Scouts of America, Scouts BSA, believes — and, through over a century of experience, knows — that helping our youth is a key to building a more conscientious, responsible, and productive society. "Be Prepared".
